How to check Google Analytics from your Mac's menu bar

Gleamworthy · October 25, 2026

If you run a website, you probably check its traffic more often than you’d admit. A new post goes up, a link gets shared, a launch goes live, and you want to know: is anyone coming?

In a browser, that check looks like this. Open a tab, go to Google Analytics, wait for it to load, pick the right account, pick the right property, find the report, and set the date range. If you have several websites, do it again for each one. That’s a lot of steps to answer a simple question.

What you actually want to know

Most quick checks come down to three things:

  1. How many people visited in the last week or month.
  2. Whether that’s going up or down compared with the period before.
  3. Which site is doing what, if you have more than one.

Google Analytics 4 can answer all of these, and much more. But it’s built for in-depth analysis, not for a two-second glance. That’s where a menu bar app fits.

Why the menu bar?

The Mac menu bar is always there. It’s where you already glance for the time, your battery, and your Wi-Fi. A number in the menu bar costs you nothing to check, and a click opens the detail without switching apps or hunting for a tab.

Setting up Synopsy

Synopsy is a native Mac app that puts your Google Analytics 4 numbers in the menu bar. Setup takes about a minute:

  1. Install Synopsy from the Mac App Store and open it. A leaf icon appears in your menu bar.
  2. Click the icon, then click Connect Google Analytics.
  3. Your browser opens Google’s sign-in page. Choose your account and allow read-only access to your Analytics data.
  4. Back in Synopsy, every GA4 property your account can see appears as a card.

There’s nothing to configure in Google Cloud and no Synopsy account to create. If you’d like to look around first, choose Take a look with sample data on the welcome screen.

What you see

The menu bar shows the combined visitor total for all your sites, next to the leaf icon. Click it and you get:

  • A combined total with growth compared with the previous period, in green or red.
  • A card for each website with its total, its growth, and a small chart.
  • 7D, 30D, and 90D ranges, and a switch between visitors and page views.

Synopsy refreshes in the background about every 30 minutes, so the numbers are ready when you look. When you want the full picture, click the chart button on a site’s card and Synopsy opens its reports in Google Analytics, signed in to the right account. Clicking the site’s name opens the website itself.

Is it private?

Synopsy has no server. It talks to Google’s Analytics APIs directly from your Mac, keeps sign-in tokens in your macOS Keychain, and contains no tracking code. It asks only for read-only Analytics access, so it can’t change anything in your account. The privacy policy has the details.

Try it

Synopsy costs $5, once, on the Mac App Store. It runs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later and works with any Google Analytics 4 property you can view.
